Janet ❤️

Janet started life as a mass produced puppy mill puppy. She went unsold, hopefully because people are starting to understand the horrors of commercial puppy production. She’s an Australian Shepherd weighing in at 35lbs and around 9 months old. She's a snuggly love who wants to be near her people as much as possible. She gets along well with other dogs (though she exhibits some classic herding behaviors) and is incredibly smart (she's practicing patience and "stay" right now, in addition to knowing sit, down, touch, wait, off, and quiet).

Janet sleeps through the night in her cozy crate with no accidents, and stands by the back door when she needs to go out. She started out as a counter surfer, but with a consistent food schedule, she's much happier and looking for food less. We're working on her leash excitement, as she always wants to say hi to people and dogs we pass. Janet has shown some startling reactions to men kickoff off pants or shoes and will need adopters willing to patiently set her up to win. We aren’t sure if she was kicked in her previous life, or if it’s just a herding breed response to a rapid movement. She’s an intelligent, affectionate girl who thrives on good leadership.

She would do well in a home as a solo dog or with another dog that is chill and can handle her classic herding "policing" behaviors. In her current foster home she does great in well managed play groups of 6-10 dogs but needs good leadership. She loves kids and is very gentle with them, but might try to herd them too.
